Lord Garon of Sheep Island fought at the Battle of Ogre Island and at an earlier siege of Azmar Castle, but did not lead an army of his own until the Battle of Sheep Island.

Though Lord Garon was a dwarf, he formed an army of humans, elves and a tamed wolf to help him recapture his island from the Ogre Raiders. At that time, there were no realms or even settlements of humans or elves in the known world and they were wanderers. Because of this, Lord Garon was able to form an army more loyal to him than to the Dwarven Princes of either Azmar or Stondar, both of whom said Sheep Island would belong to them if their warriors drove the ogres out.

Lord Garon's Army won an overwhelming victory at the Battle of Sheep Island and recaptured the island. This was the first time since the Elder Days that humans and elves had fought in any battle. It was also the first known use of a wolf in battle. Lord Garon rewarded his warriors with land grants on Sheep Island and got each of them to pledge to help defend Sheep Island in the future and to acknowledge him as Lord of Sheep Island.
